The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) praised Morocco, explaining that it has become a reference in the field of transforming agricultural and food systems, with great potential for development within the framework of South-South cooperation.

The organization’s representative in Morocco, Alexander Hoen, said yesterday, Saturday, in Meknes, that “Morocco is among the countries that are moving forward firmly and concretely in transforming their food systems, to become a benchmark for South-South cooperation.”.

Green Generation

This came during a seminar organized as part of the 18th International Agriculture Forum in Morocco, under the slogan “Towards the transformation and sustainability of agricultural food systems in Morocco”.

He pointed to the complexities inherent in any food system transformation process, highlighting Morocco’s ability to maintain a long-term strategic vision, clearly embodied in the “Green Generation” strategy, regardless of circumstantial fluctuations.

The FAO representative stressed the importance of multi-sectoral coordination, noting that the absence of joint organization limits effectiveness, which is what Morocco is currently working to establish.

strategic production chains

Meanwhile, the director of the National Institute for Agricultural Research, Lamia Al-Ghouti, presented the results of studies that included nine strategic production chains, namely wheat, legumes, dates, onions, citrus fruits, tomatoes, apples, olive oil, and strawberries, which aim to identify the critical stages of post-harvest crop loss and propose precise solutions.
