President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi participated today in the French city of Evian in a session entitled “Exiting Crises and Ensuring Stability in the Middle East”, held within the framework of the G7 summit.

This came with the participation of the leaders of the member states of the group, Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, and Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Emir of the State of Qatar, in addition to the President of the European Council and the President of the European Commission.

The official spokesman for the Presidency of the Republic stated that the President reviewed Egypt’s vision regarding developments in regional issues, pointing to the need to find a comprehensive settlement to the geopolitical crises in the Middle East in order to ensure the achievement of regional and global peace and stability, especially in the wake of the suffering that the region has witnessed as a result of the continuation of wars and conflicts in it for years.

During the seminar, the President stressed that there is no alternative to reaching a just and lasting settlement to the Palestinian issue based on the two-state solution, which guarantees the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the June 4, 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

In this context, he stressed the need to accelerate the implementation of US President Donald Trump's peace plan for the Gaza Strip.

In this regard, the President expressed his appreciation for President Trump’s efforts, which resulted in reaching an agreement to end the war in Gaza, and more recently an agreement to end the war with Iran, stressing Egypt’s readiness to exert effort in cooperation with regional and international partners to reach sustainable solutions to outstanding issues, and Egypt’s hope that reaching this agreement will represent a new stage that witnesses the settlement of conflicts in the region and a reduction of regional tension.

President El-Sisi reiterated Egypt's complete rejection and condemnation of the unjustified attacks on the Gulf Arab states, and Egypt's full solidarity with and support for the Gulf states in preserving their security and stability, emphasizing that the security of Arab states is an integral part of Egyptian national security. The President pointed out that, with the preoccupation with the crisis with Iran, the scope of the yellow line in the Gaza Strip was expanded to include about 70% of the Strip, which effectively means leaving only 30% of the Strip for the Palestinian people. His Excellency added in this context the necessity of stopping this approach immediately, as well as not allowing the annexation of the West Bank.

The official spokesperson stated that the President also affirmed that establishing stability in the region requires all parties to adopt a responsible approach based on respect for the sovereignty of states, rejecting any aggression or interference in the internal affairs of states, ending the occupation, adhering to the rules of international law, preserving national state institutions, and confining weapons to legitimate institutions.

Sisi stressed the need to agree on regional arrangements regarding collective security that take into account the concerns of all parties, and to adhere to the rules of international law in connection with the management of transboundary resources, especially those related to water security, energy security, and the security of shipping lanes.

The President also stressed the need to establish a zone free of nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction in the Middle East, and the comprehensive and non-selective implementation of the nuclear non-proliferation regime in the region, in order to preserve regional peace and stability.

The official spokesperson added that the President also addressed the issue of freedom of navigation, stressing the need to ensure the freedom and safety of navigation in international sea lanes in accordance with the principles of international law, and rejecting any obstruction of it or any attempt to change its legal status.
