The Minister of Budget and Planning confirmed Economic Nigerian Abubakar Bagudu said that the economic reforms implemented by President Bola Ahmad Tinubu’s government have strengthened Nigeria’s position as one of the most attractive investment destinations in Africa, noting that the country is witnessing an improvement in macroeconomic stability indicators and a rise in international investor confidence.

The minister's remarks came during his participation in the third session of the Hamburg Sustainability Conference, hosted by Germany, where he reviewed the Nigerian government's efforts to create a stable and stimulating economic environment for long-term investments in the infrastructure, energy, agriculture, manufacturing, digital innovation, and sustainable development sectors capable of meeting the challenges of climate change.

The reforms aim to restore investor confidence.

According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, Bagudo explained that the economic reforms implemented by the government aim to restore investor confidence, enhance financial sustainability, and expand the role of the private sector in driving development, stressing his country's commitment to strengthening cooperation with international partners to attract sustainable investments and build a more competitive and inclusive economy.

On the sidelines of the conference, the minister held a series of meetings with officials and representatives of international economic and financial institutions, including Claudia Voss, CEO of the German-African Business Association, along with leaders of the European financial institution “ODDO BHF”, where the two sides discussed investment opportunities in the areas of reforestation, carbon credit financing, sustainable forest management, climate project financing and green investment.

Officials from the ODDO BHF Foundation praised the economic reforms implemented by the Nigerian government, stressing that the new policies have contributed to improving the investment environment and enhancing the confidence of foreign investors in the Nigerian market.

Bagudo also met with officials from H2Global, where the two sides discussed opportunities for cooperation in developing the green hydrogen sector, given Nigeria’s large renewable energy resources, huge natural gas reserves, and growing industrial base.

The talks resulted in the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Nigerian Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning and the H2Global Foundation, with the aim of establishing a framework for cooperation in developing the green hydrogen economy, which supports the transition towards clean energy sources and enhances investment opportunities in this promising sector.

The Hamburg Sustainability Conference, held on June 29 and 30, is one of the most prominent international events concerned with sustainable development, bringing together leaders of governments, international financial institutions, multilateral organizations and global companies to discuss ways to promote sustainable investment, finance climate action and support economic development around the world.
