Nigerian President: Development and growth challenges are due to the failures of previous administrations

On Tuesday, Nigerian President Bola Tinubu attributed Nigeria's development and growth challenges to the failure of previous administrations to adopt serious long-term planning frameworks.

Tinobo spoke at the Presidential Palace in Abuja, while receiving a delegation of stakeholders from Enugu State headed by Governor Peter Mbah.

The president said that successive governments had tried to finance long-term projects With short-term resources, this is a flaw that has hindered sustainable development.

The problem in the past was Nigeria's attempt to finance long-term projects with short-term funding.

We have not established a serious long-term vision for our country.

Tinubu expressed his optimism that Nigeria, with committed and visionary leadership at the local levels, is on the right track to becoming a leading African nation.

He praised Mbaah for what he called transformative leadership in Enugu, citing tangible improvements in security, infrastructure, education and health care as evidence that reforms are paying off.

He said: «The results you have presented are not abstract, but rather evidence of the success of the reforms, and that difficult decisions yield tangible results.».

Tinobo assured the delegation of the continuation of cooperation between Federal Government And the states to drive the development process.

He noted that projects such as the Port Harcourt-Enugu railway line, energy sector reforms, and other infrastructure projects will receive continued attention.

The president stressed the need for concerted efforts at all levels of government: «It is not an individual effort, but a collective effort at the national, sub-national and local levels,» he said.

Expanding the scope of development initiatives

He urged state leaders to expand development initiatives to include local governments to achieve a broader impact.

Earlier, Mbah said the visit was intended to acknowledge the federal government's interventions in the state and to reaffirm its support for the Tinobo administration.

A number of key interventions include the granting of the concession for Akanu Ibiam International Airport, the creation of the Southeast Development Authority, and ongoing road and railway projects.

The governor reported that the reconstruction of parts of the Enugu-Port Harcourt expressway and progress on the Enugu-Onitsha road have improved connectivity between regions.

He added that the completion of the Port Harcourt-Enugu railway line will boost economic activity in the region.

Mbah said that security incidents in the state have decreased significantly, while investments in education, health care and infrastructure are improving livelihoods.

He reaffirmed the support of the people of Enugu for Tinobo ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The delegation also included former Senate President Ken Namani, former Governor Ifeanyi Ogwani, former Governor Sullivan Chaim, Chief Jim Nobudu, Father Ejeke Mbaka, and others.
