Egypt's Foreign Minister discusses with the World Food Programme ways to enhance humanitarian response in Africa

Dr. Badr Abdel-AatiThe Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs met today, Friday, with Carl Skau, Acting Executive Director of the World Food Programme, on the sidelines of his participation in the Second Extraordinary Summit of Troop-Contributing Countries to the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM), held in the Ugandan capital, Kampala, as part of Egyptian efforts to support humanitarian stability in the African continent.
Increasing challenges for many countries
The meeting explored ways to enhance existing cooperation between Egypt and the World Food Programme, particularly in the areas of supporting food security, in addition to discussing the latest developments in the humanitarian situation in a number of crisis areas in the African continent, in light of the increasing challenges facing many countries on the continent.
The two sides reviewed the World Food Programme’s efforts in responding to urgent humanitarian needs and supporting the most affected groups, while emphasizing the importance of intensifying international and regional coordination to ensure efficient aid delivery and enhance the sustainability of food support programs.
The meeting comes in the context of Egypt’s growing role in supporting African issues, particularly those related to food security and humanitarian work, in light of the successive crises witnessed by some countries on the continent.
In a related context, Dr. Badr Abdel-Aty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs, met with Mahmoud Ali Youssef, Chairperson of the African Union Commission, on Friday, July 31, on the sidelines of his participation, on behalf of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, in the second extraordinary summit of troop-contributing countries to the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM), held in the Ugandan capital, Kampala.
The meeting addressed ways to support and enhance cooperation between Egypt and the African Union, in addition to exchanging views on the most prominent developments on the African scene, especially in Somalia, and post-conflict reconstruction and development efforts, reflecting Cairo’s continued commitment to supporting stability and consolidating the Union’s role in confronting regional challenges.
The two sides also discussed the ongoing preparations for the mid-year coordination summit scheduled to be held on October 4, 2026 in El Alamein, in addition to the El Alamein Summit for African Businessmen, which is held every two years in implementation of the African Union resolutions issued in February 2026.
