According to the South Sudanese newspaper Al-Mawqif, the office of the Secretary of the Transitional National Parliament announced that the swearing-in ceremony and inauguration of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of Parliament will take place today, Tuesday, in the Parliament Hall in the capital, Juba.
The official announcement stated that Joseph Ngere Paseko would assume the position of President, while Abouke Bayete would serve as Vice President. .
Parliament crisis in Juba
An official document published by media outlets in South Sudan revealed that the President of the Republic and Chairman of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement, Salva Kiir Mayardit, issued a party decision on April 2, 2026, to withdraw confidence from the Speaker of the Transitional Parliament and her deputy, in a move that followed a meeting of the Movement’s parliamentary bloc to withdraw confidence from her in a party meeting held at the Movement’s headquarters in Juba on March 31, 2026. .
According to the document signed by President Salva Kiir Mayardit, it was decided to relieve Jemma Nunu Kumba of her position as Speaker of the Transitional National Legislative Assembly, as well as Fermina Awerial Alung of her position as Vice President, effective from the date of the decision.
The decision indicated that the measure is based on the 2018 revitalized peace agreement and the movement's constitution, with a directive to notify the parliament administration to complete the legal procedures for the vacancy of the two positions.
This came as members of parliament submitted a motion to hold a vote of no confidence against Speaker Jemma Nuno Komba on Tuesday, April 7, despite Nuno's insistence on continuing to perform her duties until sufficient evidence is presented.

A statement issued by the office of Jemma Nunu explained that a parliamentary bloc affiliated with the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement held a meeting on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, during which a petition signed by some MPs was submitted to the party leader, and three MPs who had been previously selected were given the opportunity to present their arguments in support of the content of the petition.
The office noted that the Speaker of Parliament was not given an opportunity to respond to the accusations raised against her during the meeting, nor was a debate opened or a vote held on them.
The office of the Speaker of the Council confirmed that it had taken the observations raised into consideration, expressing its full readiness to address these issues through the appropriate institutional channels. The statement reiterated that the Speaker of the Council will continue to perform her constitutional duties professionally and impartially, serving the people of South Sudan, until any new directives are issued by the leadership.
