Mali: Official launch of the 32nd national reforestation campaign

Prime Minister, Head of Government, General Abdoulaye Maiga, presided over the official launch ceremony of the 32nd National Reforestation Campaign at the Palais des Pioneers on Saturday, July 25, 2026, on behalf of President Assimi Goïta, Head of the Transition and Head of State.
Under the slogan “Youth at the heart of eco-citizenship for a greener and more resilient Mali”, this year’s campaign reflects a firm commitment from the highest authorities, in collaboration with technical and financial partners in the environmental sector, to make environmental protection a national priority.
Protecting the Earth is protecting humanity.
In the context of the Sahel region, protecting the land means protecting people, and restoring ecosystems promotes conditions for peace and stability.
Preserving natural resources is essential for establishing the foundations of development.
Minister of Environment, Sanitation and Sustainable Development, Doumbia Mariam Tangara, highlighted some key figures: 1,244,164 trees were planted in 2025, with the aim of reaching more than 20 million trees by the end of the year.
She also symbolically presented seedlings to representatives of umbrella organizations, traditional and religious authorities, civil society organizations, and the private sector.
Through Ms. Evelyn Bamba, the UNDP Resident Representative in Mali, the partners reaffirmed their commitment to continue their multifaceted support to the Government of Mali in the area of land reclamation and combating desertification.
After planting the first tree, the Prime Minister linked his speech to the vision of General Assimi Goïta, the transitional president and head of state: to build a sovereign, resilient, and responsible Mali, where economic development is based on the sustainable management of natural resources.
A tree for every individual
Referring to this year's slogan, "A tree for every person, a green Mali for all," the Prime Minister urged the people to turn this slogan into a tangible reality, to meet the challenge of large-scale reforestation and planting in Mali. He concluded by saying, "This challenge is not only about planting, but also about maintenance.".
