Chad strengthens its presence in Geneva: New moves to develop employment and labor policies in Africa

In a move reflecting its growing interest in employment and social development issues, Chad participated in the work The course The 42nd Extraordinary Session of the Governing Board of the African Regional Centre for Labour Administration, held in Geneva, Switzerland, on the sidelines of the 114th session of the International Labour Conference.

The Chadian delegation was headed by the Minister of Public Service and Social Dialogue, Abdoulaye Ambado Mbami, with the participation of the Director General of the Labor Department, Mahmoud Mohamed, and the Director of the National Agency for the Promotion of Employment, Nasr Eddine Abakar Kisso, in a clear affirmation of N’Djamena’s keenness to keep pace with African efforts aimed at modernizing labor policies and enhancing employment opportunities.

Discussion of strategic files for the future of the labor market

The meeting witnessed extensive discussions on a number of institutional and organizational issues concerning the future of the center and its role in the African continent.

The Board members discussed the evaluation of the implementation of the decisions and recommendations issued by the previous session, in addition to approving the budget allocated for 2026, in order to ensure the continuity of programs and initiatives aimed at developing the labor sector.

The participants also discussed the project to review the basic system and organizational structure of the center, within the framework of efforts to modernize work mechanisms and raise the efficiency of institutional performance in line with the economic and social transformations taking place in African countries.

Promoting vocational training, research and development

The discussions also focused on ways to develop the center's roles in the areas of vocational training and specialized scientific research on labor and employment issues.

New mechanisms were reviewed to expand training and capacity-building programs, in addition to enhancing the exchange of experiences between member states in a way that contributes to raising the efficiency of human resources and improving the performance of work institutions.

The council also considered appointing officials to fill a number of vacant positions within its administrative structures, with the aim of ensuring business continuity and achieving the organization’s strategic goals.

Chad's commitment to supporting governance and operations

Chad’s participation in these meetings comes as part of its efforts to strengthen African cooperation in the areas of labor, employment and social protection, and to consolidate the principles of good governance within institutions concerned with the labor market.

The African Regional Centre for Labour Administration is one of the leading institutions specializing in supporting employment and social security policies in the continent, playing a pivotal role in preparing research, implementing training programs, and exchanging experiences among member states, which contributes to addressing economic and social challenges and achieving more sustainable and inclusive development in Africa.
