Ambassador Olivia Todrin, Romania’s ambassador to Cairo, extended heartfelt congratulations to all African peoples on the occasion of “Africa Day”, stressing that this day represents a bridge linking the achievements of the past and the aspirations of the future, calling on Africans everywhere to believe in their ability to create a better tomorrow and to work for it every day, not just on annual occasions.
In exclusive statements to “Zoom Africa News”, on the sidelines of Egypt’s celebration of Africa Day at Cairo University, Ambassador Todrin revealed a qualitative development in her country’s orientations towards the African continent, saying: “Relations between Romania and Africa have always been good, but three years ago, the Romanian government adopted a new and ambitious strategy for the future towards Africa, aimed at building strong and sustainable partnerships.”.
Key areas of cooperation
The ambassador explained that Romanian-African cooperation is focused on vital areas that represent a pillar for the future of the continent, most notably: education, agriculture, health care, and confronting climate change, stressing that Romania believes that Africa has a great future thanks to its multiple potentials.

Historical relations with Egypt
Regarding relations between Bucharest and Cairo, Olivia Todrin expressed her pride in representing her country in Egypt, noting that the two countries celebrate a long historical journey of diplomatic relations (exceeding 118 years), stressing that these relations are not limited to the political aspect only, but extend to include close economic, cultural and educational cooperation.
Communication between peoples is the foundation
The Romanian ambassador stressed that work is ongoing to strengthen “people’s diplomacy” and communication between the citizens of the two countries, saying: “We are not content with wishes, but we work day after day to make our relations deeper and warmer, and we strive for the coming years to be a title of more rapprochement and joint cooperation that benefits everyone.”.
