Djibouti inaugurates cardiac surgery department at military hospital
A step towards medical self-sufficiency and ending the suffering of traveling for treatment

The President of the Republic of Djibouti inaugurated Ismail Omar JelleOn Thursday morning, the cardiac surgery department at the military hospital in the capital was officially inaugurated, in a move considered a qualitative leap to enhance the capabilities of the health sector in the country.
The new department offers integrated medical services for the treatment of heart diseases, including general cardiology, interventional cardiology, as well as heart surgeries, most notably open-heart surgeries, which previously required patients to travel abroad.
The department includes a specialized team.

The department includes a specialized medical team comprising a select group of cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, radiologists, and anesthesiologists, working according to the latest medical standards, supported by advanced equipment and technologies, including artificial heart systems, ultrasound imaging devices, thermal control systems, and circulatory support devices.
The authorities confirmed that this development would alleviate the burden on patients and end the suffering of traveling abroad for treatment, especially in critical cases that require delicate surgical interventions.
The center witnessed two successful operations

The center has already witnessed two successful open-heart surgeries, and the president checked on the patients during his visit to the hospital and inquired about their health.
President Guelleh said in a press statement that the opening of this department represents “a giant step towards developing the health system and strengthening its independence,” noting that it is the fruit of long efforts to meet the challenges in the health care sector.
The opening ceremony was attended by a number of senior officials, including the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Zakaria Sheikh Ibrahim, while the Director General of the Military Hospital, Dr. Mohamed Saeed, oversaw the launch of this vital medical project.
