The Assistant Secretary-General for Programmes at COMESA, Ambassador Dr. Mohamed Gaddah, and the Chief of the Climate Change Mitigation and Energy Section at the United Nations Development Programme, Mathieu Salomon, held a high-level discussion on strengthening cooperation to bridge the energy access gap in Africa.
COMESA and UNDP discussions
Their discussion focused on aligning the African micro-networks program with the newly launched “Accent” project preparation facility, highlighting three priority areas:
Policies and regulations: Creating enabling frameworks to mobilize large-scale investments to provide energy for all.
– Innovative financing: Leveraging results-based finance and carbon markets to accelerate implementation.
– Digitalization and artificial intelligence: Employing smart tools to improve the planning, delivery, and performance of energy solutions.
