In a move that represents a significant shift in the development of the health system, the National Assembly of Chad approved a bill regulating kidney donation and transplantation from living donors, establishing for the first time a legal and ethical framework for these operations. The legislation is expected to contribute to strengthening specialized medical services, protecting the rights of donors and patients, and opening new horizons for health care in the country.

Chad passes its first law regulating kidney donation and transplantation with the approval of 87% in parliament.

The ratification came during a public session held by Parliament on Friday in the presence of the Minister of Public Health and Prevention, Dr. Abdul Majid Abdul Rahim, where the report submitted by the Health Committee received the approval of 87,% of the deputies, which paved the way for the adoption of the legal text aimed at establishing a legal, medical and ethical framework for kidney donation and transplantation operations within Chad.

The law aims to regulate kidney donation and transplantation procedures according to controls that ensure the protection of donors and patients, and promote the safety of medical practices associated with this type of specialized treatment operation.

This step is part of the efforts to develop health services and improve citizens’ access to advanced medical care, in line with the government’s directions to improve the quality of the national health system.
