Salva Kiir inaugurates air traffic management facilities in Juba

President Salva Kiir Mayardit, President of the Republic of South SudanOn Monday, the new Air Traffic Management (ATM) facilities in the capital, Juba, were inaugurated, in a strategic move aimed at modernizing the aviation sector and strengthening air sovereignty.

The ceremony was attended by a high-level delegation, including a senior presidential advisor, the Minister of Transport, the Director General of the Civil Aviation Authority, the Chinese Ambassador to Juba, and a representative of the African Civil Aviation Commission (AFCAC).

President Kiir cut the traditional ribbon and unveiled the project's commemorative plaque, thus officially declaring the facilities operational.
Following the ceremony, he led a guided tour of the facilities, during which he was briefed on the latest technological systems used in monitoring and managing the atmosphere, with the participation of the diplomatic delegation and senior officials.
During his speech, the Director General of the Civil Aviation Authority, Dr. Ayi Garang Deng, reviewed the historical path of the project, stressing that these facilities represent a qualitative leap to ensure the safety of air navigation in accordance with international standards, in addition to linking the airspace of South Sudan to the navigation network in the continent.

For his part, Henry Okich, representative of the Secretary General of the African Civil Aviation Commission, stressed the importance of this step in supporting the African aviation sector, while the Chinese ambassador renewed his country’s commitment to continue supporting vital infrastructure projects in South Sudan.
In his closing remarks, President Salva Kiir stressed that modernizing air navigation systems is not just a technological development, but a fundamental pillar for establishing full control over the country's airspace, attracting global airlines, and increasing transport sector revenues.
In addition to ensuring the safety of travelers and users of South Sudan's airspace.
The President concluded the ceremony by praising the efforts of the Civil Aviation Authority and international partners, especially the Chinese government, for their pivotal role in completing this huge national project.
This project is one of the most notable infrastructure achievements in the transport sector this year, and is expected to position Juba as an important maritime hub in the East African region.
