Mauritania participated on Monday in the proceedings of the eleventh session of the Africa and Indian Ocean Aviation Week (AFI Aviation Week 2026), hosted by the Egyptian capital, Cairo, with broad participation from ministers of transport and civil aviation, heads of aviation authorities, representatives of international and regional organizations, as well as aviation industry experts and partners from various countries of the continent.

The Mauritanian delegation was headed by the Director General of the National Civil Aviation Agency, Bab Ahmed Mohamed Bab Ahmed, and included the Director General’s Advisor in charge of Aviation Security, Ahmed Salem Abdullah, the Director of Security and Facilities, Omar Al-Mukhtar, and the Director of Air Navigation Safety, Abdel Fattah Mohamed Al-Mukhtar.

Mauritania participates in Aviation Week

The events of the week are organized by the Egyptian Ministry of Civil Aviation in coordination with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), during the period from July 27 to 31, within the framework of efforts aimed at strengthening cooperation between African and Indian Ocean countries, and supporting the development of the civil aviation sector in accordance with international standards.

The program for the session includes the eleventh meeting of the Directors General of Civil Aviation Authorities in the Africa and Indian Ocean region, along with the regional aviation seminar, steering committee meetings, meetings of partners and donors, leading to the adoption of a regional roadmap for the development of the civil aviation sector during the next phase.

The participants will discuss a number of vital issues, most notably the standardization of air safety and aviation security standards, the development of airport infrastructure, raising the efficiency of air navigation services, and promoting environmental sustainability in the aviation sector, as well as supporting the opening of new air routes that contribute to increasing air traffic and stimulating tourism and trade exchange between the countries of the continent.

The meetings also explore ways to expand technical cooperation, exchange experiences, build human capacities, and benefit from the latest technologies in the fields of aviation security and air navigation safety, in order to enhance the integration of the African aviation sector and keep pace with the rapid growth that the sector is witnessing globally.

Mauritania’s participation in this regional event confirms its keenness to strengthen its presence in specialized international forums and keep pace with the organizational and technical developments witnessed by the civil aviation sector, which supports the implementation of its obligations towards the International Civil Aviation Organization, and contributes to modernizing the national civil aviation system and raising its efficiency in accordance with best practices and international standards, which enhances the country’s position in the regional air transport network and supports its plans aimed at developing the infrastructure and improving civil aviation services.
