Mali's president: We face "multi-dimensional terrorism"... and there will be no retreat from nation-building.

Guaita: We are witnessing different patterns of threats and we must join forces to confront the challenges.

Written by Ziad Abdel Fattah:

Assimi Gueita, president Transitional phase In Mali, he said that his country is facing what he described as ”multi-faceted terrorism,” which includes media, economic, political and international dimensions, stressing that the state is proceeding with the reconstruction project without retreat.

This came during his remarks following his performance of the Eid al-Adha prayer at the Koulouba Palace in the capital, Bamako, in the presence of senior state officials, including the Prime Minister and the President of the National Transitional Council, along with members of the government and accredited diplomats.

The prayer was held inside the palace's ceremonial hall, which had been prepared as a prayer room for the occasion. The imam of the Koloba mosque, Mahmoud Toure, led the prayer and called in his sermon for peace, stability and prosperity in the country.

Different types of threats

In his speech, Gueita expressed his gratitude for what he described as a ”blessed moment combining prayer and communication,” praising the resilience of the Malian people in the face of current challenges.

The President addressed the security situation, stressing that his country is exposed to different types of threats, and calling on citizens to unite and show national cohesion to confront these challenges, each in his position and responsibility.

He said: “Campaigns based on misleading narratives will not undermine the will of the Malian people to achieve peace and consolidate sovereignty.”.

Support for the Malian Armed Forces

Goita also called for support for the Malian armed forces and their partners, stressing that military operations would continue to pursue armed groups “wherever they are found” until full security is restored in the country.

The head of the transitional phase reaffirmed his commitment to the financial reconstruction project, describing it as an “irreversible path” towards establishing a “new Mali.”.

On the humanitarian front, Guaita prayed for a bountiful rainy season, wished for the safe return of the pilgrims, and offered his condolences to the families of the victims of the terrorist attacks, wishing a speedy recovery to the injured.

Attempts to dismantle terrorist networks

It is worth noting that for several months, the Malian army has intensified attacks in various parts of the country in order to dismantle terrorist networks and fully restore state authority.

According to witnesses on the ground, a large part of Kidal province suffered extensive damage as a result of the strikes. Security sources also indicate that many terrorists were neutralized during this major operation, even though the military authorities have not yet been informed of a final official assessment.

The transitional authorities in Mali are determined to continue fighting relentlessly against terrorist groups that threaten the stability and sovereignty of Mali.
