The President of Guinea receives the Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations

International confirmation of Conakry's growing diplomatic presence

The President of Guinea, Mamadi Doumbouya, received the Vice President Secretary-General of the United Nations For peace operations, Jean-Pierre Lacroix, during an official meeting held in the capital Conakry, on Monday, June 15, 2026, in a move that reflects Guinea’s growing diplomatic presence on the international stage.

The meeting was attended by a number of senior Guinean officials, including the Minister of State for Presidential Affairs, General Amara Camara, the Minister of State for the Presidency, Djiba Diakite, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Integration and Guineans Abroad, Dr. Morissanda Kouyate, the Chief of Staff of the Ministry of National Defense, General David Haba, as well as the Resident Coordinator of the United Nations System in Guinea.

Guinea is leading diplomatic efforts to strengthen its relations with international partners.

This meeting comes within the framework of diplomatic moves led by the Guinean leadership to strengthen its relations with international partners and expand its presence within multilateral institutions, in order to support the country’s position regionally and internationally.

The Guinean presidency affirmed that the reception of the UN Deputy Secretary-General reflects the level of cooperation between Guinea and the United Nations, and embodies the growing international interest in Conakry’s role in regional and international issues, in light of efforts to promote stability, development and international partnerships.

In another context, the President of the Republic of Guinea, President Mamadi Doumbouya, announced the actual start of construction work on the “Chalco” aluminum refinery in the Bofah region, as part of the “Simando 2040” program.

This project is the third aluminum refinery to be launched as part of the state’s plan to promote the local processing of mineral resources within Guinea and increase the economic return from the mining sector.

On April 8, 2022, the President stressed the need to accelerate the pace of local processing of mineral resources, while obligating mining companies to fulfill their commitments regarding the establishment of refineries, in order to ensure greater benefit for the national economy and the Guinean people from natural resources.
