Eight years after the establishment of this council, the two heads of state ensured that this session would serve as an assessment and activation phase, guaranteeing that commitments are translated into tangible and measurable results for the benefit of both peoples. They commended the progress achieved, from the Senegal-Gambia bridge to the electrical interconnection between SENELEC and NAWEC, and outlined future priorities, from the demarcation of their shared border to the Sambangalo Dam, including economic integration, energy, agriculture, and climate change adaptation.
The session concluded with the signing of twelve agreements and a roadmap covering defense and security, the economy and trade, energy and hydrocarbons, digital technology, youth, culture, the environment, and cross-border cooperation. The two presidents reaffirmed their shared commitment to the principles of peace, stability, and good neighborliness within the framework of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), the African Union, and the United Nations.
Beyond the agreements, the significance of this meeting lies in a shared conviction between the two heads of state: their belief in one people inhabiting two countries, whose borders are not a dividing line but a bond. Senegal and The Gambia have chosen to build a shared destiny together.
