Chinese fugitive arrested in Nigeria
Nigerian police forces announced in a statement that the arrest and repatriation operation was carried out through the Interpol National Central Bureau in Abuja.
A Chinese fugitive was arrested in Nigeria.
Public relations officer Anthony Placide explained that the action followed a formal request from Chinese authorities, who announced that the suspect was wanted in Beijing on charges of alleged fraud amounting to more than $245 million.
He noted that investigations revealed that the suspect fled from China to Nigeria on November 5, 2024, in an attempt to evade arrest, after which an arrest warrant was issued against him on November 12, 2025, by the Shenan Sub-Office of the Qingdao Public Security Bureau.
The statement explained that, based on intelligence information and continuous surveillance operations, agents of the Interpol National Bureau in Abuja succeeded in tracking down and arresting the fugitive at a factory located in Olotedo, Sion Village, Obafemi Oode Local Government Area, Ogun State on April 24, 2026. Subsequently, the suspect was extradited to the People’s Republic of China on April 28, 2026, through bilateral police cooperation arrangements to face prosecution for the crimes committed.”

Placide In Olatungi Desu, the Inspector General of Police, affirmed the Nigerian police force's commitment to strengthening international cooperation in combating transnational organized crime.
