Sudan and South Sudan discuss border security

The president received Transitional Sovereignty Council Sudan’s Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan met in Port Sudan with the Director of the National Security Service (Internal Security) in South Sudan, Lieutenant General Akec Tong Alieu, in a meeting that addressed ways to strengthen bilateral relations and develop security cooperation between the two countries.
The meeting was attended by the Director of the Sudanese General Intelligence Service, Lieutenant General Ahmed Ibrahim Mufaddal, where the two sides discussed a number of security files of common interest, most notably strengthening coordination between the security agencies in Khartoum and Juba, and intensifying efforts to secure the common borders and confront the security challenges facing the region.
During the meeting, officials stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation mechanisms, information exchange, and security coordination, which contribute to supporting stability, maintaining security, and consolidating sustainable peace in both countries, in light of the increasing regional challenges that require close cooperation between security institutions.
The talks also addressed the importance of continuing joint work to address border issues and combat illegal activities, in order to achieve common strategic interests and enhance stability in border areas.
During the meeting, Lieutenant General Akec Tong Alieu conveyed the greetings of the President of the Republic of South Sudan, Salva Kiir Mayardit, to the Chairman of the Sudanese Sovereignty Council, wishing Sudan and its people more security, stability and progress.
This meeting comes within the framework of ongoing efforts between Khartoum and Juba to strengthen bilateral relations and raise the level of security cooperation, in order to support regional stability and enhance opportunities for peace and development between the two countries.
