N'Djamena and the Niger Basin Authority strengthen regional coordination in water resources management

The two sides discussed strengthening initiatives that ensure sustainable management of water resources.

The Minister Delegate to the Minister of Finance and Budget receivedEconomy Chad’s Minister of Economy, Planning and International Cooperation, Saleh Borma Ali, on Wednesday received a delegation from the Niger Basin Authority headed by its Executive Secretary, Armand Houani, who is on a working visit to the Chadian capital, N’Djamena.

The discussions focused on prospects for cooperation between Chad and the Niger Basin Authority, particularly in the areas of integrated water resources management, sustainable development, and the implementation of structural projects with a developmental dimension for the benefit of local communities in the basin countries.

Preparations are underway for the upcoming water forum to be held in N'Djamena.

The two sides reviewed the preparations for the upcoming water forum to be held in N’Djamena, which is expected to form a regional platform for discussion on water security issues, adaptation to climate change, and mechanisms for financing water infrastructure in the West and Central Africa region.

During the meeting, the Minister Delegate affirmed the Chadian government’s commitment to continuing to support regional cooperation efforts and to strengthen joint initiatives aimed at ensuring sustainable management of water resources, in line with the objectives of the National Development Plan «Chad 2030».

The meeting comes in the context of growing regional interest in water and climate change issues, in light of the increasing challenges facing the Niger Basin countries in terms of water security and sustainable development.

In another context, Chadian Prime Minister, Lamay Halina, opened on Wednesday the proceedings of the 25th session of the International Pharmaceutical Forum in the capital, N'Djamena, with the participation of experts, officials and representatives of the pharmaceutical sector from 37 African countries, in an event that focuses on ways to enhance access to health services and develop local pharmaceutical production.

The forum, held under the theme «Enhancing Access to Healthcare: Challenges and Opportunities Related to Local Production and Hospital Pharmacy,» is under the patronage of President Mohamed Idriss Deby, where participants will discuss mechanisms to support the African pharmaceutical industry and improve the provision of medicines in accordance with quality and safety standards.

During the opening session, the Minister of Public Health and Prevention, Abdul Majeed Abdul Rahim, stressed that developing a national pharmaceutical industry is one of the essential paths to confront the phenomenon of counterfeit medicines and ensure the provision of safe and effective treatments for the population, pointing to the importance of strengthening local production capacities to achieve pharmaceutical security.
