Chad faces heavy rains; urgent field mobilization to contain the risk of flooding.

As heavy rains continue to fall on the Chadian capital, N'Djamena, local authorities have intensified their field operations to address the risks of flooding and mitigate its effects on the population and infrastructure.

In this context, the Deputy Mayor of N’Djamena, Mohamed Ibrahim Siam, led an extensive inspection tour to assess the extent of the damage and monitor the effectiveness of the preventive measures that have been deployed in various neighborhoods of the city.

Field monitoring of water drainage networks

The deputy mayor began his tour by visiting Jibril Khairallah Street in the Fifth District, where work is continuing to clean and maintain rainwater drainage channels.

During the visit, he held direct meetings with the engineers and technicians supervising the works, stressing the need to accelerate the pace of work to ensure better water flow and avoid blockages that could lead to flooding of streets and residential areas.

The municipal official stressed the importance of rapid intervention during the rainy season, especially in areas that usually experience large water accumulations, in order to reduce potential losses and maintain traffic flow and the daily activities of citizens.

Pumping stations are on high alert

The tour also included the pumping station in the Deglet neighborhood of the Eighth District, in addition to a number of sites classified as areas most prone to water accumulation.

Inspections revealed the continued presence of pools and stagnant water in some neighborhoods, which prompted the deputy mayor to issue immediate instructions to strengthen pumping operations and mobilize technical teams around the clock to accelerate the drainage of water towards its designated outlets.

Commitment to protecting the population and infrastructure

These field movements reflect the municipal authorities’ keenness to closely monitor the situation and deal quickly with the challenges posed by the rainy season. In addition to emergency interventions, the N’Djamena municipality seeks to implement a long-term vision aimed at strengthening the city’s ability to cope with floods and improving urban drainage systems.

In light of climate change and the increasing severity of weather phenomena, the authorities affirm that protecting the population and preserving vital infrastructure will remain a top priority, ensuring the stability of daily life and improving the quality of life for the residents of the Chadian capital.
