Believe it or not... a couple gets married at the bottom of the sea in Mauritius (photos)

A wedding ceremony took place on the seabed in Mauritius.

Mauritius witnessed a remarkable incident that resonated widely and generated significant attention, extending beyond the borders of the African nation.

A man and a woman decided to get married; up to this point, everything is normal and nothing is surprising. Surprise However, what happened next was surprising.

Instead of holding their wedding ceremony as is customary, in a hall or amidst a gathering of friends, the couple, Sybil Blumenthal and Rob Burfield, both 55 years old, decided to start their life from the sea, and not only that, but from the bottom below.


Cap Malorio, north of Mauritius, witnessed these happy and strange moments, amidst an atmosphere inspired by their shared passion for diving.

Diving into their lives

They are friends who used to dive together; the wife even says that ocean It represents a "happy haven" for them, indicating that this environment was the most expressive choice for their relationship.

The couple met through a mutual friend, and their shared hobby quickly developed into a romantic relationship, prompting them to move from Europe to Bali three years ago to practice diving almost daily.

Prior to the wedding, the bride and groom completed the official procedures on a boat, then headed to the diving site, where a simple ceremony was held on a sandy bottom decorated with an arch of palm fronds and white flowers, along with tropical festive touches.

Unusually for traditional diving, the bride and groom wore their formal attire with only some basic diving equipment, as the bride appeared in a wedding dress with light weights, in a rare underwater scene.

During the ceremony, the couple exchanged marriage vows written on laminated papers, then exchanged rings placed inside a shell, before concluding the ceremony with an underwater dance, sharing a single oxygen cylinder in a symbolic and moving moment.

Sybil explained that sharing the air during the ceremony was one of the most meaningful moments for her, while Burfield noted that the idea seemed perfectly natural in the context of their relationship.

The ceremony was organized by a team specializing in maritime weddings, and professionally documented, before the couple later announced the news to their families and friends, who expressed their happiness and considered the experience to be in line with their love story.
