The Sudanese film "Queen of Cotton" wins the Tutankhamun Silver Award

The Sudanese film "Queen of Cotton" won the Tutankhamun Silver Award at the Luxor African Film Festival, at the closing ceremony of the fifteenth edition of the festival.

The closing ceremony, presented by Sudanese media personality Tasneem Rabah and artist Yasmine El Hawary, witnessed the announcement of the official festival competition awards.

The special jury awarded the Silver Tutankhamun Mask Award to the film “Queen of Cotton” by director Suzanna Merghani from Sudan. In the short film competition, the jury gave two special mentions to the films “Don’t Wake the Sleeping Child” by director Kevin Aubert from Senegal, and ”My Story with Jiba Street” by director Kajo Idehipur from Nigeria.

“Whispers of the Wind” by director Remi Riomogabe from Rwanda won the award for best artistic contribution, while “Aisha” by director Sanaa Alaoui from Morocco won the “Silver Tutankhamun Mask” award, and “Dendera Dreams” by director Sabrine El-Hossamy from Egypt won the “Golden Tutankhamun Mask” award.

The closing ceremony of the fifteenth edition of the Luxor African Film Festival was launched, in the presence of a number of filmmakers and artists, most notably artist Mahmoud Hamida, the honorary president of the festival, screenwriter Sayed Fouad, the president of the festival, and director Azza El-Husseini, the festival director, in addition to artists Khaled El-Sawy, Ahmed Fathi, Mohamed Radwan, Hossam Dagher, Khaled Kamal, Mohsen Mohi El-Din, and Mohsen Mansour.

Supporting African Cinema

The closing ceremony of the fifteenth Luxor African Film Festival came to emphasize its continued role as an important platform to support African cinema, promote opportunities for cooperation and co-production, and discover new talents, which contributes to the development of the film industry in the African continent.

The 15th Luxor African Film Festival concluded with the Egyptian film “Cologne” by director Mohamed Siam winning the Grand Nile Award for Best Film (the Golden Mask of Tutankhamun).

The Luxor African Film Festival is considered a vital platform to support filmmakers, as the Luxor Festival awards highlight the development of cinema on the continent, especially with the attention given to Upper Egyptian films and the brilliance of stars like Ahmed Malek in distinguished cinematic works such as the Egyptian film Colonia.
