Ethiopia and China strengthen educational partnership: New agreement to promote the Chinese language

In a move reflecting the growing strategic relations between Ethiopia The two countries and China signed a new cooperation agreement aimed at developing Chinese language education in Ethiopian educational institutions, which will enhance academic and cultural cooperation and open up broader horizons for knowledge exchange between the two peoples.
This agreement comes within the framework of joint efforts to deepen the partnership between the two countries.
The Ethiopian capital witnessed an official signing ceremony attended by officials from both sides, during which they emphasized the importance of education and culture as a bridge to strengthen bilateral relations and support long-term cooperation.

Technical support and curriculum development
During the signing ceremony, Ethiopian State Minister of Education Dr. Kindia Gebrehiwot affirmed that the agreement represents an important step towards developing Chinese language education programs in the country.
He noted that the cooperation will include providing technical support in a number of vital areas, including curriculum development, teacher training, and the preparation of modern educational materials, in addition to strengthening quality assurance systems and implementing pilot programs for teaching the Chinese language in various educational institutions.
The minister explained that this cooperation would raise the level of educational competencies and give Ethiopian students greater opportunities to acquire new language skills that keep pace with the requirements of a world that is increasingly moving towards openness and international communication.
Growing academic partnerships
The Ethiopian official praised the existing partnerships between universities and educational institutions in the two countries, stressing that academic cooperation between Ethiopian universities and their Chinese counterparts has witnessed remarkable development in recent years, contributing to the exchange of experiences and knowledge and enhancing opportunities for scientific research and joint training.
He added that these partnerships have become a successful model for educational cooperation that positively impacts human capacity development and supports sustainable development.
Cultural activities to promote rapprochement between the two peoples
For his part, the Chinese Ambassador to Ethiopia, Chen Hai, affirmed that the new agreement will give students in both countries broader opportunities to participate in modernization and development efforts, and will also strengthen ties of friendship and mutual understanding.
He noted that the Chinese Embassy organized a series of cultural and educational events this year, including a Lunar New Year bazaar, a celebration of the International Day of the Chinese Language, a Chinese language proficiency competition, a Chinese film festival, as well as a friendly football match between China, Ethiopia and Russia.
The ambassador affirmed that more cultural initiatives and activities will be launched in the coming period, expressing his confidence that Ethiopian-Chinese relations will continue to grow, supporting Sino-African cooperation and enhancing cultural and educational exchange on a wider scale.
