Youth Day in South Africa

Youth Day in South Africa is a national celebration of June as Youth Month, in recognition of the pivotal role young people played in the struggle against apartheid, particularly during the Soweto Uprising of 1976.

That uprising, organized by courageous students protesting against injustice in the education system, was a turning point in the country's march towards freedom. It is a day of remembrance with the launch of democracy in 1994, a day of renewal, and a promise to give today's youth more influence.

They are not just participants in collective progress, but partners in building a more inclusive, sustainable, and just future, while the state takes upon itself the responsibility of building a world that reflects and honors their vision.
