President Sisi and his Gambian counterpart discuss regional developments and bilateral relations

President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi received a phone call today from President Adama Barrow, President of the Republic of Gambia.

The official spokesman for the Presidency of the Republic stated that the call addressed the course of the distinguished bilateral relations between Egypt and Gambia, where the President affirmed Egypt’s keenness to enhance bilateral cooperation in various fields, especially trade, investment and development.

Fruitful cooperation between Egypt and Gambia

The call also addressed ways to enhance partnership in the health sector, building on the fruitful cooperation that culminated in the opening of the Egyptian Medical Center in the capital, Banjul, in December 2025.

Ambassador Mohamed El Shenawy, the official spokesperson, explained that the Gambian President expressed his appreciation for the remarkable development in relations between the two countries, stressing his country’s aspiration to continue expanding the horizons of joint cooperation in a way that serves the interests of the two brotherly peoples.

Presidents Sisi and Barrow also agreed to continue coordinating to enhance cooperation in development and economic fields.

Discussing the latest regional developments

The official spokesperson added that the call also touched on the latest regional developments, with the President reviewing Egyptian efforts aimed at restoring stability in the Middle East and reducing the repercussions of regional tensions.

The two leaders also discussed developments in the West African region, and ways to support peace, security and sustainable development on the African continent.

For his part, President Barrow appreciated Egypt’s efforts in promoting regional stability, expressing his hope to deepen coordination between the two countries to maintain peace and security in the region.

Foreign Minister and his Gambian counterpart

On April 1, Dr. Badr Abdel-Aty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptians Abroad, received Serigne Modou Njie, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Gambia, on the sidelines of the Ministerial Meeting of Leading African Countries in Implementing the Global Compact for Migration, to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries and intensify coordination and consultation on issues of common interest.

Minister Abdel-Aty praised the growing momentum in bilateral relations between the two countries, expressing his aspiration to continue developing and elevating bilateral relations in various fields. He stressed the importance of increasing the volume of trade exchange, encouraging mutual investments, and holding the joint committee between the two countries as soon as possible. He called for opening wider horizons for Egyptian companies and the private sector to benefit from the opportunities available in the Gambian market and to take advantage of the opportunities provided by the African Continental Free Trade Agreement.

The Foreign Minister stressed the importance of the participation of Gambian companies and the private sector in the business forum that will be organized on the sidelines of the mid-year coordination summit scheduled to be held in El Alamein next June.
