Congratulations and confidence in the diplomatic mission
The Chairperson of the Commission congratulated the Special Envoy on his appointment, expressing his full confidence in his ability to carry out his duties, particularly with regard to supporting the peaceful and effective implementation of the ruling issued by court Justice International On May 19, 2025.
Mahmoud Ali Youssef stressed that implementing the international ruling represents an opportunity to strengthen dialogue between the two countries, build mutual trust, and support sustainable good neighborly relations, which contributes to achieving regional stability and avoiding any future tensions.
For his part, Ambassador Albert Shinjiro expressed his appreciation for the trust placed in him by the Chairperson of the Commission, affirming his commitment to working to strengthen consultations between the parties concerned and to consolidate the spirit of cooperation, in support of African efforts aimed at resolving conflicts through peaceful means.

The envoy noted that the coming period will witness a series of meetings and consultations with the concerned parties, with the aim of ensuring the smooth implementation of the international ruling and strengthening regional cooperation between Gabon and Equatorial Guinea under the umbrella of the African Union.
Earlier, the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, His Excellency Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, welcomed the ceasefire agreement between the United States and Iran, describing it as “an important step that reflects commendable leadership and a shared commitment to de-escalation.”.
He praised the constructive role played by key mediators, including Egypt, Pakistan, Oman and Turkey, whose diplomatic efforts contributed to this outcome.
He added that the ceasefire represents a crucial opportunity to alleviate the suffering of the population directly and indirectly affected, after the repercussions of the conflict spread globally, including throughout Africa, where disruptions to fuel supplies have led to higher inflation and increased prices for basic commodities.
