The General Staff of the Malian Armed Forces announced that it had carried out a series of airstrikes targeting what it described as "hostile" targets in the Timbuktu sector, as part of ongoing military reconnaissance and surveillance missions.
The army announces it has carried out airstrikes against terrorist vehicles and movements in the Timbuktu region.
The statement explained that the aerial surveillance operations, which were carried out on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, enabled the detection of five loaded four-wheel drive vehicles, accompanied by a group of suspected individuals, near a stop in the area.
After a period of monitoring and confirmation of the nature of the targets, the Air Force carried out four strikes targeting the site, according to the military statement.

According to the initial count, the operation resulted in the complete destruction and burning of two vehicles, in addition to the neutralization of a number of individuals who were near the targeted vehicles.

The statement indicated that survey and damage assessment operations are still ongoing to determine the final tally and the results of the operation more accurately.
In the context of ongoing military operations, the General Staff had announced the previous day the execution of another air operation in the Gao sector, after spotting a vehicle accompanied by a motorcycle and about ten people near a command center located five kilometers north of the gold mine in Intilit, and 16 kilometers north of the Ntahaka area.

The statement added that the air force monitored the target for a period before carrying out a precise strike that resulted in neutralizing a number of armed elements and destroying their logistical means, while reconnaissance operations are still continuing in the area to follow up on the results of the operation.
These operations come as part of an escalation in offensive reconnaissance and preemptive strikes carried out by the Malian armed forces, with an increasing focus on targeting the movements of armed groups and their supply and logistical support networks.

In closing, the military leadership praised the level of readiness and professionalism demonstrated by the participating units, stressing the continuation of tracking and targeting operations against armed groups in various regions of the country.
