Namibia and Botswana plan to launch a joint airline to boost regional connectivity.

Strengthening bilateral relations between Namibia and Botswana

The Ministry announced Transportation Botswana’s infrastructure is based on a joint initiative with Namibia to establish a national airline, a move aimed at strengthening air connectivity between the two countries and supporting integration in the transport sector, with the support of a strategic partner.

Official announcement to enhance bilateral cooperation

The statement, issued via the ministry’s official Facebook page, explained that the project comes in implementation of what the two countries’ presidents announced during the meetings of the bilateral committee between Namibia and Botswana, which were held in the Republic of Namibia in 2025.

The announcement was made by Namibia’s President Dr. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah and Botswana’s President Doma Gideon Poku, and the importance of the project in strengthening bilateral relations was emphasized.

Direct link between Windhoek and Gaborone

The new airline aims to provide direct flights between the two capitals, Windhoek and Gaborone, as well as connecting them to a number of key regional and international destinations, thereby facilitating travel and trade between the two countries.

This project is part of a broader vision to enhance the region’s transport infrastructure, as the statement indicated that cooperation is not limited to air transport, but extends to other projects such as extending railway lines across the Kalahari Desert.

The ministry stressed that these steps reflect the two countries' commitment to strengthening regional integration and improving transport networks.

The statement indicated that the two countries are working to “put flight paths across African skies together,” referring to their ambition to build a sophisticated air transport network linking the various countries of the continent.
