The Foreign Minister discusses with the African Union Commissioner support for development on the continent.

Dr. Badr met Abdel-AatiThe Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs, met with Mahmoud Ali Youssef, Chairman of the African Union Commission, on Friday, July 31, on the sidelines of his participation, on behalf of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, in the second extraordinary summit of troop-contributing countries to the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM), held in the Ugandan capital, Kampala.

The meeting addressed ways to support and enhance cooperation between Egypt and the African Union, in addition to exchanging views on the most prominent developments on the African scene, especially in Somalia, and post-conflict reconstruction and development efforts, reflecting Cairo’s continued commitment to supporting stability and consolidating the Union’s role in confronting regional challenges.

Preparations for the Coordination Summit

The two sides also discussed the ongoing preparations for the mid-year coordination summit scheduled to be held on October 4, 2026 in El Alamein, in addition to the El Alamein Summit for African Businessmen, which is held every two years in implementation of the African Union resolutions issued in February 2026.

In a related context, the two sides discussed developments in a number of regional issues, most notably Sudan, Somalia and the Horn of Africa, where Minister Abdel-Aati stressed the importance of supporting national state institutions, preserving the unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity of countries, and rejecting any unilateral measures that affect their sovereignty or threaten their stability.

For his part, the Chairperson of the African Union Commission praised Egypt’s active role within the Union’s institutions, appreciating Cairo’s efforts in supporting the continent’s issues and defending its interests, and stressing the Commission’s keenness to continue coordination and consultation with Egypt to promote peace and security and advance development paths in Africa.
