Eswatini launches a massive project to boost energy security and strategic reserves

The project aims to bolster the strategic fuel reserves and protect the country from supply disruptions.

The Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Eswatini, Russell Mmiso Dlamini, affirmed the government's commitment to enhancing the country's energy security during a field visit to the strategic petroleum reserve facility in the Fuzamoya area of Sifofanini, describing the project as an important national investment that enhances energy security and supports sustainable economic growth.

He explained that the project comes within the framework of the “Nuwei” work program and the National Comprehensive Transformation Plan, noting that upon completion it will contribute to enhancing the Kingdom’s ability to store a strategic reserve of fuel, thus protecting it from any potential disruptions in supply chains.

The Prime Minister commended the efforts of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Energy, the National Petroleum Corporation of Eswatini, the contractor, the project management team, and all partners, calling for continued work at the same pace to ensure adherence to schedules, budgets, and quality standards.

Dlamini stressed that the importance of the project is not limited to energy security only, but extends to achieving tangible social and economic benefits for citizens, through increasing the participation of local companies, creating job opportunities, developing skills, and supporting the local business sector.

He added that major infrastructure projects should be a catalyst for local economic activity by providing opportunities for contractors, suppliers and service providers.

The Prime Minister concluded by emphasizing the government’s confidence in the project’s completion, considering it a national priority that will contribute to strengthening energy security, driving economic transformation, and improving the standard of living for citizens in Eswatini.
