Egypt and Tunisia discuss the situation in Libya

Dr. Badr Abdel-Aty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptians Abroad, met with Mohamed Ali Nafti, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Tunisians Abroad of the Republic of Tunisia, on the sidelines of the meeting of the Council of the League of Arab States in its resumed 165th regular session held in the Jordanian capital, Amman.

During the meeting, Minister Abdel-Aati emphasized the special and distinctive nature of the bilateral relations and the historical and popular ties that unite Egypt and Tunisia, praising the remarkable development witnessed in relations between the two countries.

He also praised the convening of the eighteenth session of the Egyptian-Tunisian Joint Higher Committee in Cairo last September, and the results it produced, which reflected the keenness of both sides to advance the paths of bilateral cooperation in various fields, stressing the importance of following up on the implementation of the outputs of the Joint Higher Committee and building on the agreements achieved during it, which contribute to strengthening economic, trade and investment cooperation between the two countries.

Supporting bilateral relations in various fields

Both sides also stressed the importance of continuing to support bilateral relations in various fields and enhancing economic and trade cooperation between the two countries. Minister Abdel-Aati expressed his hope for active participation in the investment forum hosted by Tunisia, which would contribute to strengthening communication between the business communities and opening new horizons for cooperation and joint investment.

On the regional level, both sides stressed the importance of continuing coordination and consultation regarding the various issues and challenges facing the region, most notably the Palestinian issue and the situation in Libya.

In this context, Minister Abdel-Aati praised the outcomes of the meeting of the foreign ministers of the tripartite neighboring countries mechanism on Libya, which was hosted by Cairo on May 21, stressing the importance of maintaining the periodic convening of the mechanism as an important framework for supporting the unity of the Libyan state, preserving its national institutions and enhancing its stability.
