Review of rehabilitation and reintegration programs
Correctional Services Day is an annual opportunity to showcase the achievements of correctional institutions in Eswatini, particularly in the areas of vocational training, education, and psychosocial rehabilitation programs targeting inmates.
These programs aim to provide beneficiaries with the necessary skills that enable them to build a stable life after their release, thereby contributing to reducing recidivism rates and enhancing opportunities for social integration.
The celebrations also include demonstrations about the nature of work within correctional institutions, as well as highlighting the developments that the sector has witnessed in recent years in the areas of management, training and improving the work environment.
The role of correctional services in promoting community security
Correctional and rehabilitation institutions play a pivotal role in the security system, as their work is not limited to implementing legal penalties, but extends to contributing to the rehabilitation of individuals and transforming correctional institutions into environments that support positive change.
According to reports, the success of rehabilitation programs directly impacts security and stability within communities, by enabling former inmates to return to normal life and participate positively in economic and social activities.
In this context, the authorities in Eswatini are keen to develop the capabilities of the reform and rehabilitation sector and provide the necessary resources to enhance its effectiveness, as it is one of the essential components of the justice system.
