The President of Benin, Romuald Wadani, officially appointed prominent Beninese-French journalist Claude Sière to a strategic position as Special Advisor for Culture, Media, and National Presence. This appointment was confirmed on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, less than two weeks after the new president's inauguration.
Promoting African cultures
Claude Siar is a leading figure in promoting African cultures in the Francophone world, and is internationally renowned for creating and presenting the legendary radio program "Equatorial Colours" on Radio France Internationale (RFI) for over three decades. He is also the founder of Tropic FM and has dedicated his career to cultural diversity and supporting the diaspora.
In his new role, Claude Siar will be tasked with directly advising President Wadani on strategies to enhance Benin's cultural appeal, develop local creative industries, and increase the country's international presence. This appointment follows Siar's recent acquisition of Beninese citizenship, which has strengthened his ties to the country, ties he will now work to promote internationally.
