Efforts to reach an understanding between the American and Iranian sides

The official spokesman for the Presidency of the Republic stated that the call addressed the efforts made to reach a memorandum of understanding between the American and Iranian sides, where the President affirmed Egypt’s full support for the existing negotiating track, reviewing the contacts and efforts that Egypt is undertaking to facilitate the negotiations and pave the way towards a final and comprehensive agreement that puts an end to the escalation and restores security and stability to the region.

President Sisi affirms his rejection of any aggression against the sovereignty of the Gulf states.

In this context, the President referred to his recent participation in the joint telephone call that included the US President and a number of leaders of Arab and regional countries, reaffirming Egypt’s position calling for a peaceful settlement of all the region’s crises, and its categorical rejection of any attack on the sovereignty of the sisterly Gulf states or any threat to their territorial integrity, while stressing the importance of flexibility, avoiding miscalculations and giving sufficient opportunity to the diplomatic track.

Ambassador Mohamed El Shenawy, the official spokesperson, added that the Iranian President reviewed the course of the ongoing negotiations, expressing his appreciation for the efforts made by Egypt and other regional parties to bring the Iranian and American sides closer together.

President Pezeshkian also stressed his country’s keenness to strengthen fraternal relations with all Arab countries, especially the Gulf Cooperation Council countries.

In this context, the President reaffirmed Egypt’s firm position based on upholding the principles of international law, foremost among them respect for the sovereignty of states, good neighborliness and the peaceful settlement of disputes.

The official spokesman indicated that the two presidents exchanged congratulations on the occasion of Eid al-Adha, expressing wishes that God would bring the holiday back to the Arab and Islamic nations with goodness, blessings and prosperity, and that all the peoples of the region would enjoy peace, stability and prosperity.
