An advanced Egyptian model for supporting universal health coverage

A high-level Kenyan delegation praised the development witnessed in the healthcare sector in Egypt during a field visit to the New Capital Hospital, one of the newest medical facilities that reflects the state’s direction towards developing an integrated health system that relies on modern technology and keeps pace with global standards.

The visiting delegation included Fred Ota, Kenya’s ambassador to Egypt, Dr. Uma Oluga, Undersecretary of Medical Services, Dr. Wako Egersa, CEO of the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA), along with a number of senior officials from the Kenyan Ministry of Health.

The delegation was briefed on the hospital's medical capabilities.

The visit was accompanied by Dr. Ramzi Munir, Director of the New Capital Hospital, where the delegation was briefed on the medical and technical capabilities of the hospital, which is managed by the General Authority for Health Insurance and includes 327 beds equipped with the latest medical technologies, in addition to a wide range of specialized services and digital systems that contribute to raising operational efficiency and improving the quality of care provided to patients.

The delegation members affirmed that the New Capital Hospital represents an advanced model of strategic investment in the health sector, and embodies Egypt’s success in employing modern infrastructure and digital innovation to enhance health services and support efforts to achieve universal health coverage.

The visit also provided an opportunity to learn about the Egyptian experience in managing modern health facilities, and to benefit from accumulated expertise in the areas of digital transformation, medical services management, and improving operational performance efficiency, which are areas of increasing interest within the plans to develop the health sector in Kenya.

The delegation noted that the Egyptian experience in developing smart hospitals and expanding the scope of health services represents a model that can be used to support Kenya’s plans to improve access to health care, enhance the efficiency of the medical system, and achieve the goals of universal health coverage.
