Somalia is approaching a new historical phase in its energy sector and is preparing to drill the “Holhol” oil well in Mogadishu, a step that solidifies the path to economic independence for the Federal Republic of Somalia.
This represents a new quantum leap in the national energy sector, as the country prepares to launch drilling and exploration operations in the “Halul” oil well located in the Sol region.

Federal government officials confirmed that the logistical and technical preparations have reached their final stages. The implementation will be carried out by Gulfsom, an investment joint venture that brings together major Somali and Qatari companies.
It is expected that the “Holool” well will mark its name as the first onshore well and the second oil well to be officially drilled in the country, following the ambitious offshore “Koorad-1” project.
This significant development reflects the pace of Somalia's diligent efforts to exploit the vast latent oil and gas resources, and to open new horizons for attracting direct foreign investments, thereby establishing a solid foundation that supports sustainable economic growth and long-term prosperity for the country.
Somalia declares mourning over the death of Prince Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa.
In a separate context, the Somali Ministry of Information, Culture, and Tourism announced the decision issued by the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Dr. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, declaring official mourning for the passing of the Father Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, who passed away at the age of 74.
The Ministry clarified in a statement that the decision reflects the Somali leadership's appreciation for the high status the deceased enjoyed, honoring his career and contributions to supporting the Somali people. It also embodies the depth of the brotherly and historical relations between Somalia and the State of Qatar.
The statement added that the late prince was one of the most prominent supporters of Somalia at various stages, and that his death represents a loss for the Arab and Islamic worlds, praising the role he played in strengthening relations between the two countries.
The Federal Republic of Somalia offered its sincere condolences and sympathy to the esteemed Al Thani family, His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir of the State of Qatar, and the Qatari government and people, asking God to encompass the deceased with His vast mercy and grant him a place in His spacious gardens, and to inspire his family with patience and solace.
