Namibia appoints High Commissioner to Malaysia to promote economic and investment partnership

Namibia’s President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah today appointed Christine Hobbs as Namibia’s High Commissioner to the Malaysian Federal Government, during a ceremony held at the Presidential Palace.

Protecting Namibia's sovereignty and promoting its interests

In her instructions to the appointed High Commissioner, the President stressed her responsibility to protect Namibia’s sovereignty, promote the country’s national interests, and strengthen the historical bonds of friendship and cooperation between Namibia and Malaysia.

Nandi-Ndaitwah stressed the importance of economic diplomacy, calling for enhanced cooperation in the areas of trade and investment, renewable energy, oil and gas services, logistics, port development, green manufacturing, tourism, digital transformation, education, and technology transfer.

The High Commissioner-designate also urged the translation of the established bilateral relations into tangible opportunities that support the achievement of Namibia’s Vision 2030, the Sixth National Development Plan (NDP6), and the priorities of the Eighth Administration.

For her part, Christine Hobbs expressed her deep gratitude to President Nandi-Ndaitwah for the trust placed in her, describing her appointment as a great honor and a grave national responsibility, pledging to represent the Republic of Namibia with honesty, professionalism and dedication, and to work to promote national interests and consolidate the sustainable partnership between Namibia and Malaysia.

The newly appointed High Commissioner affirmed her commitment to expanding cooperation in the areas of trade and investment, education and skills development, tourism, agriculture, energy, technology and other strategic sectors, as well as promoting Namibia as a reliable and attractive investment destination, strengthening relations between the two peoples, and supporting the country’s foreign policy objectives in a way that contributes to achieving social and economic transformation.

At the conclusion of the ceremony, President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah expressed her confidence in Christine Hobbs’ ability to serve the Republic of Namibia with competence, wisdom and excellence, and to contribute to deepening the friendly relations and mutually beneficial partnership between Namibia and Malaysia.
