Amidst accelerated African efforts to address modern security challenges, the Egyptian Ministry of Interior hosted the seventh meeting of heads of national liaison offices of the African Union Mechanism for Police Cooperation (Afripol), with the participation of representatives from 50 African countries and a number of international organizations, to discuss mechanisms for strengthening security cooperation and exchanging expertise in confronting these challenges. The meeting came to emphasize the importance of joint coordination between African countries in confronting cybercrimes, which have become an increasing threat to national, economic and social security in the continent, especially with the rapid development of digital technology tools and the widening scope of internet use in various sectors.

During the events, participants discussed a number of key themes, most notably mechanisms to enhance security cooperation and information exchange between police agencies in African countries, as well as developing methods for collecting and analyzing digital forensic evidence in line with the nature of modern crimes, and contributing to raising the efficiency of rapid response to cross-border threats.
The meeting also touched on the importance of building the capabilities of security personnel in the field of combating cybercrime, through continuous training and the exchange of technical expertise among member states, in order to raise the level of security readiness to face growing challenges.
On the sidelines of the meeting, the Ministry of Interior organized a field visit for the participating delegations to a number of entities and facilities affiliated with the Police Academy, where the participants were briefed on the advanced training and technical capabilities that the Academy possesses, which reflect the development of the system for preparing and qualifying security personnel in Egypt.
The participants praised Egypt’s active role in supporting African security efforts and enhancing police cooperation among the countries of the continent, stressing the importance of continuing this coordination to confront complex security threats, especially cybercrime, which has become a global challenge that requires a collective and integrated response.
This meeting comes in the context of Egypt’s keenness to consolidate its pivotal role within the African continent, and to support joint security action mechanisms in a way that contributes to achieving stability and sustainable development in Africa.
