Nigeria achieved a score of 91% in the aviation safety rating, following the latest assessment by the International Civil Aviation Organization's (ICAO) coordinated verification mission, marking one of its strongest achievements in recent years.
The Minister of Aviation and Space Development, Festus Keamo, announced the achievement on Wednesday, describing it as one of the highest safety ratings Nigeria has achieved in assessments by the International Civil Aviation Organization.
Comprehensive audit
He explained that this result came after a comprehensive audit that included all aviation authorities and airlines operating in the country, where they were assessed and approved as safe companies based on the results of the visiting International Civil Aviation Organization team.

The coordinated verification mission team concluded its on-site safety audit in Nigeria on Wednesday, having begun its review last week. This process followed up on the International Civil Aviation Organization's Comprehensive Safety Audit Programme (CSAP), which was conducted between August and September 2023, during which Nigeria achieved a score of 70.12% in effective implementation.
Jerome Baturo, head of the international civil aviation safety assessment team, said the mission focused on assessing Nigeria's progress in implementing corrective action plans resulting from the 2023 audit.
Evaluation and documentation
He added: “We have a team from the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) present here and remotely to collect, assess and document evidence of the progress Nigeria has made in implementing its corrective plans.”.

He explained that the team studied the documents and operational improvements introduced by the Nigerian aviation authorities to enhance compliance with international safety standards.
