Ngor Beach in Senegal: A haven for residents of the capital to escape the summer heat

With the scorching midday heat, Ngor Beach becomes a favorite retreat for Dakar residents. Far from being just a picturesque view, this easily accessible and supervised coastline attracts diverse crowds: artists seeking inspiration, athletes training, and families looking to relax. Everyone makes their own connection with the ocean.

When the sun rises over Dakar, people head to the beaches, but in Ngor, the afternoon signals the beginning of a different rhythm: swimmers arrive, beachgoers find their way, and athletes take advantage of the waves.

Between relaxation, passion, and the search for refreshment, everyone has their own reason for settling down in front of the ocean.

For some, Ngor Beach is primarily a place to live, an inspiring environment, and a captivating atmosphere. Musa Ba, a beach enthusiast, comes here to enjoy its unique ambiance. He has been frequenting the beach regularly for years and appreciates the scenery and artistic spirit it exudes. He says, ”The beach is beautiful; I visit it every weekend, especially in the summer. Moreover, the views are breathtaking and the atmosphere is pleasant. I have been coming to this beach since 2019.”

A few meters away, others come not only to relax, but also to learn and develop. Armand Mendy, a novice swimmer, uses this place for swimming lessons and training sessions.

For him, Ngor Beach remains an accessible destination for everyone, where everyone can enjoy the sea without having to spend a lot of money. He says: ”The beach is accessible to everyone. Here in Ngor, you don’t need much to escape the hustle and bustle of life or enjoy the beach. That’s why it’s so crowded, at all times: at noon, at 5 pm, and even at 8 pm.”

But away from the crowds, safety remains a key factor for regular visitors. Mami Thierno chose Ngor Beach for its excellent supervision and well-organized facilities. With lifeguards on duty and a friendly atmosphere, he finds a reassuring environment for complete relaxation. He says, ”There’s a beach near my house, but I prefer this one because it’s licensed. There’s supervision and lifeguards responsible for safety. We receive guidance and protection. The atmosphere is great; we feel comfortable here, enjoy ourselves, and feel happy.”

In Ngor, when the heat drives Dakar residents to the ocean, the beach becomes more than just a place to swim; it is a space for encounters, sports, and relaxation, where every visitor comes to find their own moment of tranquility among the waves.
