Chad and Algeria strengthen their strategic partnership with the launch of a new power plant in N'Djamena.

The new energy project reflects the level of cooperation between the two countries.

Witnessed Chadian-Algerian relationsA new push towards strengthening bilateral cooperation, with the President of the Republic of Chad, Marshal Mohamed Idriss Deby Itno, holding official talks with the Algerian Prime Minister, Sifi Gharib, who is on an official visit to Chad, coinciding with the launch of a strategic project in the energy sector aimed at supporting the country’s electrical infrastructure.

The talks, held at the Toumai Palace, followed the groundbreaking ceremony for the 40-megawatt Farsha thermal power plant project in the capital, N'Djamena. The two sides reviewed the course of bilateral relations and ways to strengthen the strategic partnership between the two countries, in addition to following up on the implementation of joint agreements signed in a number of vital sectors.

In the same context, the Farsha neighborhood in the first district of N’Djamena witnessed, on Monday, June 8, 2026, the official launch of the construction works of the thermal power plant, under the supervision of the Chadian Prime Minister, Ambassador Lamay Halina, and his Algerian counterpart, Sifi Gharib, in the presence of two high-level official delegations from the two countries.

The two sides are exploring ways to activate joint agreements in vital sectors.

The inauguration ceremony included the signing of the project implementation agreement between the relevant authorities, before laying the foundation stone to signal the start of work, in a step that reflects the two countries’ commitment to strengthening economic and developmental cooperation, especially in the energy sector, which represents one of the most prominent developmental challenges in Chad.

The new station is expected to contribute to raising the electricity production capacity and improving the level of related services, which will positively impact the lives of citizens and economic activities in the capital and neighboring areas.

The project is seen as a model of cooperation between Chad and Algeria, and an embodiment of their shared desire to expand areas of strategic partnership, particularly in priority sectors such as energy, infrastructure and sustainable development.

The talks between the President of Chad and the Algerian Prime Minister emphasized the importance of continuing joint coordination and activating bilateral agreements in a way that serves the common interests of the two countries and enhances stability and development in the region.
