The US is discussing developments in Sudan and Libya with Egypt and the UAE.

US talks on Sudan and Libya

Mosaad Boulos, senior advisor US President Donald Trump, for Arab and African affairs, said he held consultations with the foreign ministers of Egypt and the UAE regarding developments in Sudan and Libya.

In a post on the “X” platform, Paul explained that he had made phone calls which he described as fruitful, the first with Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the UAE, and the second with Dr. Badr Abdel-Aty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs in Egypt.

The political path in Sudan

He noted that during the two talks, a number of issues of common interest were discussed, including the political process in Sudan, the ongoing conflict there and the resulting humanitarian crisis, as well as efforts to support the unification of Libya, in addition to other regional issues.

Paul stressed the importance of continued coordination and cooperation in order to support peace, stability and prosperity in the region.

For his part, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aty held talks with the US President’s senior advisor on Arab and African affairs, Massad Boulos, which addressed a number of regional issues and crises within the framework of ongoing cooperation that has been in place for several months.

According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday, the telephone call touched on developments in Sudan, Libya and the Horn of Africa region, in addition to the Nile water issue.

Visit of Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki to Egypt

These talks came after Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki’s visit to Egypt, during which Cairo affirmed its commitment to supporting Eritrea’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, in addition to discussing the situation in the Horn of Africa and cooperation between the two countries to ensure the security of the Red Sea and freedom of navigation in it, according to a statement from the Egyptian presidency.

Regarding Sudan, Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aty stressed during the call with Paul the need to reach a humanitarian truce as a prelude to a permanent ceasefire, in order to ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid and alleviate the suffering of the Sudanese people.
