Ahead of the Grand Magal, the President of Senegal announces the completion of preparations to welcome millions of visitors.

He conducted President of SenegalBassirou Dioumay Faye visited the city of Touba, where he met with the Caliph General of the Muridiyya order, Sheikh Serigne Montakha Bassirou Mbacké, a few days before the start of the Grand Magal celebrations, one of the largest religious gatherings in West Africa.

The President of Senegal visits Touba ahead of the Grand Magal and affirms the country's readiness to receive millions of pilgrims.

During the meeting, the Senegalese President asked the Caliph General to pray for the security and stability of Senegal and the future of its youth. He also paid tribute to the memory of Sheikh Serigne Sheikh Salifou Mbacké, in recognition of his religious and national role.

The President reviewed the measures taken by the government to ensure the success of the Hajj season, which included providing drinking water, improving sanitation and rainwater drainage services, enhancing health care, securing electricity supplies, in addition to implementing an integrated security plan.

Basiru Diomae Faye confirmed that the state had fulfilled all its obligations, noting that the remaining work would be completed before the start of the celebrations.

He explained that the 2026 edition of the Grand Magal coincides with the rainy season, which prompted the authorities to strengthen preventive measures by equipping rescue teams, health and security personnel before the arrival of visitors.

The Senegalese president stressed the state’s commitment to supporting the sustainable development of the city of Touba, going beyond the annual preparations for the Hajj season.

The President concluded his visit by heading to the Grand Mosque in Touba, where he visited the tomb of Sheikh Ahmadou Bamba, the founder of the Muridiyya order, and offered prayers for Senegal and the success of the Grand Magal celebrations.
