Senegalese coach Aliou Cisse, the coach of the Libyan national football team, announced on Wednesday that he is leaving the team after one year in charge of the Libyan national team.
Senegalese coach Cisse took over the leadership of the Libyan national team in March 2025, on a two-year contract with the option to extend for a third year, but he did not complete his mission and announced the termination of the contract after he had played 10 matches with the Libyan national team, winning 3, drawing 5, and losing only twice.
The coach said via his Instagram account: “Last March was an exceptional month for me, as it witnessed my last gathering as coach of the Libyan national team. It was a very rich adventure on both the professional and personal levels, and I could not leave without saying a word from the heart to you.”.

The Senegalese coach added in a message to the technical staff and players: ”Despite the difficulties we faced, I am proud of the work we have done together and the results we have achieved. I have great faith in this team, and I have no doubt that you will continue your efforts to move it forward.”.
He also addressed a message to the Libyan fans, saying: “I would like to thank you for the warm welcome you gave me, and for your enthusiasm and unlimited support. I will never forget you, and I know that the Knights of the Mediterranean will always be able to count on you. I wish you all the best in the future.”.
Cissé concluded his statement by wishing the Libyan national team success in their upcoming matches. Meanwhile, the Libyan Football Federation has yet to release any statement clarifying the situation, despite Cissé's official announcement of his resignation.

The reason for Cisse's departure
The website “Foot Africa” revealed that Cisse worked for 8 months with the Libyan national team without receiving a salary, due to a financial crisis suffered by the Libyan Football Federation.
In the same context, the “Ghana Soccer” network reported that the Senegalese coach faced significant delays in receiving his financial dues throughout his employment.
Although reports in early April indicated that the Libyan Football Federation had recently settled a large part of these outstanding dues, the network confirmed that at least one month's salary remained unpaid until the moment Cisse resigned from his position as technical director of the Libyan national team.
