After 17 years of challenges, the new passenger terminal at Juba International Airport has been opened.

The President of the Republic of South Sudan, Lieutenant General Salva Kiir Mayardit, officially inaugurated Terminal 3 at the airport on Thursday. Juba InternationalAfter the completion of its construction, in a step that is considered an important milestone in the development of the infrastructure of the civil aviation sector in the country.

The new passenger terminal at Juba International Airport has been inaugurated.

The president explained that the building project began 17 years ago and was scheduled to open on the eve of Independence Day, but the project faced multiple challenges that prevented it from being completed on time.

He stressed that the opening of the new building will enhance the capacity of Juba International Airport and provide better services for international travelers, contributing to the modernization of the aviation sector and improving air traffic in South Sudan.

President Kiir expressed his gratitude to all parties who contributed to the completion of the project despite the challenges it faced, considering the opening of the building an important step towards modernizing the infrastructure of the aviation sector.

He also called on the government agencies concerned with public procurement to conduct sufficient studies and due diligence before awarding contracts, stressing the need to prevent development projects from being disrupted due to weak contracting procedures.

He noted that the opening of the new passenger terminal reflects South Sudan’s continued progress on the path of development, and invited international investors to enter into partnerships with the country and contribute to the development of the aviation sector.

Briefing on Project Implementation Progress

Earlier today, a team from the Office of the President of the Republic of South Sudan, headed by Director General Marik Nanga Marik, conducted an inspection visit to Terminal (3) at Juba International Airport.

The visit was to review the final stages of work on the project, which is in its last phases in preparation for its opening.

The delegation was received by the senior management of the Civil Aviation Authority in South Sudan, headed by the Director General, Dr. Ayii Gwang Deng Ayii. The Authority officials briefed them on the progress of the project implementation and the remaining work.

The visit aimed to assess the readiness of the new passenger terminal, follow up on the completion stages, and coordinate with the state leadership to complete the necessary procedures to ensure the opening of the terminal as soon as possible.

Terminal 3 is one of the most prominent infrastructure development projects at Juba International Airport and is expected to contribute to enhancing the efficiency of air transport services and improving the passenger experience, in line with the growing increase in air traffic in the country.
