Trump congratulates King Mohammed VI on Throne Day and affirms Washington's support for Morocco's sovereignty over the Sahara.

US President Donald J. Trump sent a congratulatory message to Moroccan King Mohammed VI on the occasion of the Kingdom of Morocco’s celebration of the 27th anniversary of the Throne Day, stressing the depth of the historical relations between Rabat and Washington and his country’s commitment to continuing to strengthen the partnership between the two countries.
A statement issued by the Moroccan Royal Court explained that the US President noted in his telegram the 250th anniversary of the “lasting friendship” between the United States and Morocco, based on trust and mutual respect, and expressed his congratulations to King Mohammed VI and the Moroccan people on this national occasion.
Supporting Morocco's sovereignty over its southern provinces
According to the cable, Trump reaffirmed the United States“ position supporting Morocco’s sovereignty over its southern provinces, stressing that his country considers the Moroccan autonomy proposal to be ”serious, credible and realistic” and the only basis for reaching a solution to this conflict.
The US president added that any other course of action would only prolong the current situation, stressing that “this conflict must end now,” and that Washington would continue its efforts to push for progress on this issue.
Trump also praised King Mohammed VI’s role in promoting stability, noting that Morocco’s commitment to peace, combating extremism and protecting security reflects a valuable partnership for the United States, and affirming Washington’s readiness to cooperate with Rabat to ensure the security of the Sahel region.
On the economic front, the US President affirmed that King Mohammed VI’s vision for growth and development opens new horizons for shared prosperity between the two countries, noting that an American team has been tasked with working to promote economic and social development with Morocco, including in the Sahara region.
Trump indicated that cooperation between the two countries would include strategic sectors including energy, artificial intelligence, rare minerals and defense, expressing his hope to continue the American-Moroccan partnership in the coming decades.
The US president concluded his message by emphasizing joint efforts to build a “new era” that puts the interests of the American and Moroccan people at the forefront of priorities.
