Strong Egyptian support for the African Union Commission regarding the promotion of peace and security on the continent.

Egypt affirmed its support for the role of the African Union Commission in advancing continental integration efforts and promoting peace, security, and development.

A telephone call took place between Dr. Badr Abdel-Aty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptians Abroad, and Mahmoud Ali Youssef, Chairperson of the African Union Commission, on Tuesday, June 30, to discuss ways to enhance joint African action and coordinate positions on issues of common interest.

To advance continental integration efforts and promote peace, security and development

Minister Abdel-Aty affirmed Egypt’s support for the African Union Commission’s role in advancing continental integration efforts and promoting peace, security and development in Africa, noting the keenness to continue close coordination with the Commission on various political, economic and health issues of common interest, reflecting Egypt’s firm commitment to supporting the institutions of the African Union and contributing to establishing the foundations of peace, security and stability on the continent, advancing post-conflict reconstruction and development efforts and achieving the goals of the African Union’s Agenda 2063 for development.

In a related context, the two sides exchanged views on various regional and continental issues, particularly developments in Sudan, Somalia and the Horn of Africa region, where Minister Abdel-Aati stressed the support for national state institutions and the preservation of the unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity of the countries of the region, and the rejection of any unilateral measures that would infringe on the sovereignty of states or undermine the foundations of regional stability.

Appreciation for the Egyptian role 

For his part, the Chairperson of the African Union Commission expressed his appreciation for Egypt’s important role within the African Union and the efforts Egypt is making to support the continent’s issues and defend its interests, stressing the Commission’s keenness to continue coordination and consultation with Egypt to establish stability, peace and security and achieve development.
