Afreximbank cancels its annual meetings in New Alamein
Due to the health situation in Africa

Written by Ziad Abdel Fattah:
The African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) has decided to cancel the in-person events of its 2026 Annual Meetings, which were scheduled to be held in New Alamein City, Egypt, from June 21 to 24, announcing that it will instead hold the official General Assembly of Shareholders via correspondence.
The move came in the wake of a decision by the Egyptian government and the African Union to postpone the bloc’s semi-annual coordination meeting, as well as the first El Alamein Africa Forum, which were scheduled to be held in the same city between June 25 and 27, due to public health and safety concerns in light of developments in the health situation in some parts of the African continent.
In a message to participants, the bank expressed its regret for any disruption this decision may cause to attendance plans, while appreciating the efforts and preparations made by partners, sponsors, speakers, and all parties involved in the annual meetings agenda.
