Mali postpones the opening of Digital Week to August 1st

The Ministry of Communications, Digital Economy and Administrative Modernization in Mali announced the postponement of the official opening ceremony of the fourth session of «Digital Week»The meeting, which was scheduled to take place on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, coincided with the official visit of Senegalese President Bassirou Guillaume Diagne Faye to the capital, Bamako, on the same day.

The ministry explained in an official statement that the opening ceremony will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at 10:00 AM, coinciding with the closing ceremony of the session, at the Bamako International Conference Center.

The events program will not be affected.

The ministry confirmed that the program of artistic and scientific events will not be affected by the postponement decision, noting that the discussion sessions and workshops will start as scheduled on Wednesday morning, July 29, 2026, at nine o'clock, according to the approved timetable.

She added that the rest of the events and program of the fourth edition of «Digital Week» will take place without any modifications, calling on participants and guests to adhere to the specified dates for the various activities.

In closing, the Ministry of Communications, Digital Economy and Administrative Modernization apologized for any inconvenience that may be caused by postponing the opening ceremony, stressing its appreciation for the understanding of the participants, partners and guests, and valuing their cooperation in making this prominent technical event a success.

In another context, after more than four decades of its suspension, Mali is preparing to relaunch the sports biennial in its independent format, in a move that reflects the Malian government’s interest in reviving one of the most prominent national events that brings together young people from all over the country. The capital, Bamako, is scheduled to host the tournament from August 7 to 16, 2026, with the participation of representatives from all regions, in the first edition to be held according to the new administrative division of the country.

This edition is of particular importance, as it comes after the postponement of its scheduled date in September 2025 for organizational reasons. The tournament returns after the last independent edition held in 1983 in the city of Sikasso. The government believes that reorganizing the event represents a new beginning for national sport and an opportunity to strengthen ties between the youth of different regions.

The tournament will see the participation of delegations representing the nineteen regions in addition to the Bamako region, where athletes will compete in five sports: athletics, football, basketball, traditional wrestling and chess. The competitions are expected to be a platform for discovering sporting talents and highlighting the abilities of young people in various disciplines.
